A VERY LAZY CAT

Sam is a big fat tabby cat. Sam is a very lazy cat. He has a nice cosy, warm bed and all he wants to do all day is sleep.

When a butterfly came and sat on his ear, it tickled but he was too lazy to bat it off with his paw—so his ear tickled.

In fact, he had been in bed so long and so still that his legs began to ache, but he was too lazy to move—so his legs ached and his ear tickled.

His tummy began to rumble but he was too lazy to go into the kitchen for something to eat—so his tummy rumbled, his legs ached and his ear tickled.

Sam was not comfortable at all but he was just too lazy to get up. All he could be bothered to do was lie in his bed and grumble to himself.

But the longer he lay, the more uncomfortable he became and his grumble became a growl, and his growl became a howl!

Soon he was howling so loudly that mum came in.
"Sam you lazy cat! You're too noisy, too lazy and too fat! Out you go!" and she picked Sam up and put him out, into the garden.

Now Sam was really angry because he wasn't in bed any more, his tummy rumbled, his legs ached and his ear tickled.

So he batted the butterfly off his ear and chased it all around the garden. His legs didn't ache any more and his ear didn't tickle. Sam felt much better.

Then he stomped through the cat flap into the kitchen and found a big bowl of food. Sam ate it all up and his tummy stopped rumbling. He felt much, much better.

Sam sat on the kitchen windowsill and looked out at the beautiful, sunny day and thought, My ear doesn't tickle, my legs don't ache and my tummy's full. Hmmm, I think I'll go back to bed.

...and so he did!
